Carrie - Stephen King

Chris Hargensen/Carrie White

This is an excellent enemy-ship. Look, Chris canonically likes rough sex and gets off on mutual spite, so we are all owed Carrie/Chris hate-sex with telekinetic kink. I tend to see this ship as full-on dark, so my mind immediately goes to Carrie Lives AUs where Chris is somehow pressured or blackmailed into protecting her or where something Carrie does with her powers leads to the two of them slipping off this plane of reality altogether on prom night. But also: Chris getting her revenge for missing prom by manipulating Carrie into a fake relationship or just taking advantage of Carrie’s rock bottom social status and desperate desire to be liked for favors that get rewarded with a kiss. Just--darkness and awfulness and maybe some blood play.

Chris Hargensen/Susan Snell

Ethical popular girl and unethical (and possibly sociopathic) popular girl. What is their history like? A few moments together between boyfriends that weren’t supposed to mean anything? An actual relationship that one of them wanted more than the other? What if Chris had targeted Sue for her revenge instead of Carrie, taking umbrage at Sue’s moral stance--what would she have done? If they had both lived, what would the aftermath of prom have been like, with the two of them among the only people who know the full story? How do they deal with the scrutiny and attention? Does Chris begin to actually feel any guilt, and does Sue sympathize with that, or find it to be too little too late? How would they get along as adults? (Given the format of the book, with all the excerpts from fake documents, I would totally read a mocked-up lesbian news profile of Chris and Sue all grown up and together and complicatedly loving and hating each other at the same time.)

Susan Snell/Carrie White

I’m all for real romance here, but also all for the dark or bittersweet, whatever you prefer. Carrie’s ghost haunting Sue after the canonical ending? Carrie somehow pulling Sue along in her wake when she leaves town after burning down the prom, complete with creepy dubcon mind-fucks? (That scene in the book of her brutally going through Sue’s memories has always given me chills.) Divided loyalties and the ongoing toll of telekinetic powers? An AU where Carrie’s powers are awakened by her sexual awakening with Sue? Maybe Sue starts getting Carrie’s powers transmitted to her somehow? I’m also all for use of telekinesis during sex in ways both fun and dark and for romantic use as well.

Mansfield Park - Jane Austen

Mary Crawford/Fanny Price

I love the contrast in their worldviews and personalities (and Fanny thinks Mary is excessively pretty!); they have a great blend of sparks, conflict, and sincere admiration. What if instead of Henry vowing to make Fanny fall in love with him, Mary vows to make Fanny think of her as her closest friend? She spends months cultivating their relationship and pretending to fall more in line with Fanny’s beliefs, but then she starts to genuinely change, and their “friendship” starts to cross over into something more complicated? What if Mary had gone to visit Fanny in Portsmouth and had either decided to spirit her away or had inserted herself into the life and circumstances of the Price family? How does Fanny feel about her glamorous quasi-friend seeing her family’s circumstances? And I’d love to see their first time in bed--I’m really intrigued by the idea of them losing their virginity together when they both have no experience but have hugely different levels of sexual awareness. Fanny’s utter ignorance of what to do against Mary’s false bravado. What do they try? Do they wind up with anything that’s not part of the “normal” playbook?

Malory Towers - Enid Blyton

Darrell Rivers/June Johns

I just can't get over how rankled Darrell is by "young June." It's like June allows her to vent the darker side of her complicated feelings about Alicia and exert her upper-form sense of superiority--except June is extremely likely to bite back whenever possible. I'd love to see petty mind-games with them, where the hierarchy issues and dislike blend into attraction. Darrell punishing June in some way that makes it unfortunately clear to them both that there's something else going on there? June developing a crush on Darrell and pursuing it via slightly mean-spirited tricks and the destruction of her rivals? June trying to wring info on Darrell from Felicity and Alicia? Antagonistic chemistry that gives way to kissing and snarky, bristly affection? Sexual feelings and experimentation/fade-to-black sex is fine for this ship, even if June's under sixteen.

Clarissa Carter/Wilhelmina "Bill" Robinson

These two just make me so happy--they feel like they'd fit in perfectly with a lot of real life queer history of how couples managed to make a life for themselves. I'd love anything with them figuring out their feelings and settling into their happy ending. Do they work things out while they're still at school? Or do they worry that anything sexual or romantic between them there might be situational, and they have to reaffirm their feelings once they graduate? Or do they get all the way to setting up their stable before they act on anything? And I love the idea of just really leaning into the butch/femme thing, with Clarissa being super into Bill's more masculine presentation and Bill loving Clarissa's more feminine look. Do Bill's brothers just totally take this in stride and stay a part of her life? Just--romance and horses and domesticity and people making space for themselves.

Darrell Rivers/Alicia Johns

I love the sparks of attraction and rivalry between these two, and I love the way Darrell notices and mistrusts Alicia's general sharpness and hardheartedness. Canon keeps raising the possibility of someone being spanked with a hairbrush, and this pairing seems like a perfect fit for that--I can totally see Darrell losing her temper and Alicia finding, possibly to her horror, that she's way into it. I'd also just love anything tracing their path from slightly antagonistic friendship to romance. I requested them for Just Married, and I really love the Marriage is a Requirement for School Graduation, Marriage as Punishment, Spouses Assigned by School, Marriage That Must Last One Year, etc. prompts for them, because I just love the idea of the school's general meddling in its students' emotional lives extending that far--and Darrell and Alicia having a kind of cranky slowburn of catching feelings from what they think will be a corrective marriage (to sand off Alicia's edges? to cool down Darrell's temper?) or a temporary marriage of convenience.

Mary-Lou/Daphne Turner

These two have one of my favorite shippy arcs in the series. Mary-Lou going out into the storm for Daphne's sake is just amazing, and I love how it makes Daphne realize how much she really likes Mary-Lou and how she's been valuing the wrong things--and people--in life; I love that Daphne has a dishonest, cunning streak to her that may be just what Mary-Lou needs to stop other people from taking so much advantage of her. I'd love hurt/comfort--after the storm or under any other circumstances--and mutual appreciation and pining. Mary-Lou looking adoringly at Daphne's beauty and slowly realizing Daphne is looking back? Daphne worrying that Mary-Lou is too good for her, or that her own feelings are wrong and Mary-Lou is obviously too innocent for such thoughts? Awkward first-time kisses? And also any future-fic with the two of them building a life together and navigating through the world.

The Perfection

Elizabeth Wells/Charlotte Wilmore

There are so many great places to go with them post-movie or in missing scenes. I'd love any look at their relationship once Anton and Paloma are out of the picture--I'll hand-wave any take on how they'd cover up all the murder just to have them settling in and running the school and falling further in love, with creepy, unsettling vibes and their own issues still lurking everywhere. Do they find their own weird way to worship the concept of perfection? (Feel free to go out-and-out supernatural horror with this--is there an actual force involved here?) Or as a missing scene, I'd love to see more of them after Lizzie confronts Charlotte but before they carry out their plan. Obviously, Lizzie now understands why Charlotte did what she did, but there's still a lot of anger there and their relationship is obviously fucked-up right then, so how do they deal with it and smooth out the rough edges to start working together? And how much of that smoothing out do they do by having intensely hot sex? I'm also really interested in an AU where Charlotte works out her initial plan a little differently, maybe going into a kind of deep undercover work where she just goes on the road trip with Lizzie and pretends everything's fine and reintegrates into Anton and Paloma's life while secretly planning on burning it all down--if she can keep herself from getting sucked back in. Does she still try any terrifying gaslighting and drugging? Or does she try to persuade Lizzie in some other way?

Star Trek - Classic Timeline

Fandom-specific DNW: sexual assault. Sexual harassment outside of the Mirrorverse. I'm fine with creepy, generally universal sleaziness in the Mirror Universe, but I'd rather not have any of it coming from the main cast.

Mirrorverse Note: I like the Mirrorverse best when the characters are still somewhat recognizable as themselves, albeit much darker and more violent from living in the Terran Empire. So they can kill and cheat and steal and scheme and dubcon each other, but I'd like them to still be capable of some better impulses sometimes, even if they hide it deep, deep down to avoid showing any "weakness."

Christine Chapel/Nyota Uhura

These two have some really great moments. I love the idea of them developing feelings for each other and a kind of simmering intimacy before Christine knows that her fiance is dead, with Christine feeling guilty about it and Uhura thinking that she can't act on anything--and then them having an awkward waiting period afterwards until the tension finally boils over beautifully. And I loved Christine helping Uhura relearn her language skills after her memory was damaged, so it would be great to see anything dealing with that--maybe it increases their closeness? Maybe Christine has to help Uhura with other aspects of her memory? Maybe there's your standard "I don't remember anything but clearly you're my girlfriend"/"Not really, but I'm afraid contradicting you might somehow hurt your recovery" amnesia story? (I just love anything with amnesia, seriously.) Or I'd love to see the two of them on an away mission together--maybe they get stranded on an alien planet? Or have to participate in a strange custom?

Janice Rand/Nyota Uhura

I loved Rand nudging Uhura into singing in "Charlie X," so seeing anything that dealt with Rand's obvious love of Uhura's music would be terrific. Maybe Uhura writes her a song? And something about these two makes me want to see them in all kinds of incredibly tropey SF romance situations. Aliens make them get married, aliens make them have sex, they have to go on some particularly weird undercover mission, soulbonded, got drunk and got married on shore leave, etc. (If you've read Enterprise: The First Adventure, I really love Rand's ultra-woobie backstory there, where she's only recently gotten out of slavery before joining up with the Enterprise, and she has a pretty steep learning curve with getting used to people not being terrible. So I'm happy to see that incorporated if you'd like--does Rand get recaptured, and Uhura has to help rescue her?--but also happy to see any other directions.)

Mirror Christine Chapel/Mirror Nyota Uhura

So many great, dark possibilities here. Does Uhura fall for Chapel and then covertly arrange to make sure her long-distance fiance never comes back into the picture? If Chapel is one of the people in sickbay betting on how the patients will deal with unmedicated pain, is she a sadist who might enjoy playing some games with Uhura? I'm down with medical kink here. Do they start out just having sex and then slowly realize they're leaving themselves vulnerable to each other? Is "I was going to kill you, but then I changed my mind" the greatest confession of love in the Mirrorverse?

Mirror Nyota Uhura/Christine Chapel

Uhura's life in the Mirror Universe seemed particularly dangerous. I'd love to see her escape into the main Trek universe and get to integrate into a happier, more stable society--one that's she's maybe not well-equipped to deal with at first, given that stabbing people is frowned upon. I just adore the idea of the culture clashes and strangeness that would ensue from this Uhura not knowing how a kinder, gentler world works and not knowing how to respond to people who look like the people she knew but are nice. (For this particular prompt, I'm fine with discussing Mirror Sulu's attempts at assault, I'd just like Mirror Uhura to not have to deal with any of that once she's in Chapel's universe.) Christine seems naturally caring and like a good choice to help Uhura figure out how to start fitting in, and I kind of love the potential for genuinely romantic stuff where falling in love with Christine helps open Mirror Uhura up to the world. (I'd also be happy to see Regular Uhura helping tutor Mirror Uhura in Federation norms--I like the idea of the two of them interacting and Regular Uhura getting to use her communication skills this way.)

Mirror Janice Rand/Mirror Nyota Uhura

I'd love to see these two playing long games to survive and even thrive. Do they try to maintain the current power structure for now, given that Sulu implies Kirk and Spock keep the worst of the Mirror Universe's on-bridge harassment in check? Or does one of them want to be captain one day, so they're looking at long-term strategies for climbing the ladder, with one of them committing the occasional murder for the other? Do they trust each other? I mentioned that the novels have Rand's backstory as her coming from slavery and having a steep learning curve--if you want to adopt that or even just take the basic idea, I'm totally here for Uhura either buying Rand or buying her freedom (but expecting a certain amount of loyalty in return), and their relationship involving mutual feelings but unequal power. Basically just all the dark loyalty kink and Machiavellian scheming and hot, kinky sex.

Mirror T'Pring/Mirror Nyota Uhura

I really want to know how they meet in the Mirror Universe, especially since I like the idea of keeping the culture clash element. Is T'Pring powerful enough that Uhura can gain some kind of valuable deal or treaty by servicing T'Pring through her pon farr? Does Uhura step in and marry T'Pring during an "Amok Time" parallel so she can get a favor from Spock? Maybe she doesn't expect to be so compelled by her new wife… I love the idea of the two of them becoming a major power couple, either in space or on Vulcan. And I love all the arranged marriage/forced proximity tropes for them, with the two of them slowly opening up to each other, something that's especially fraught in a universe that punishes trust more often than it rewards it.

Original Work

Amazon/Greek Woman

I really love the idea of a Greek woman with a much more limited set of possibilities coming face-to-face with an Amazon who feels none of those restraints. That combination of attraction, envy, wonder, and curiosity is just so potent. Maybe the Greek woman is wealthy, and has always lived in highly-controlled luxury, and the Amazon’s roughness appeals to her; maybe she’s poorer, and the strength seems glamorous. How do they meet? Does the Greek woman get shipwrecked on the Amazons’ island, or does the Amazon come to mainland Greece for some reason? An Amazonian ambassador to Greece who falls in love with one of the high-born women around the government or with one of the servants or slaves that her culture isn’t used to ignoring? I also just love the feel of ancient Greece, so costume porn of togas and Amazonian armor, food porn of banquets eaten by hand, and gorgeous marble buildings would all make for terrific details and scene-setting.

Art Thief/Woman in a Painting

Yes, please. Is this dark f/f, with the woman in the painting trying to keep her painting from being stolen or punish the thief for having taken it? I'm always down for creepy, f/f-suffused horror, so feel free to go as dark with this as you would like. Does the art thief get dragged into the painting? Or should the art thief really, really not have stolen this particular painting--because it was owned by the one person who could keep the terrifying eldritch woman restrained to the painting? In that case, does the woman seduce the thief into stealing her painting? And I'm also perfectly happy to see lighter, more romantic takes--is the woman in the painting intrigued by the thief? Does the thief steal art partly to give the woman in the painting some company? How do they fall in love? And for that matter, how is the woman in the painting? Is she just naturally imbued with life--or was she a living person and this is her portrait, which has somehow kept her spirit tethered to it? Is she specific to one painting, or is she a kind of muse who can move from painting to painting, and the art thief's whole life is about chasing after her?

Bodyguard/Musician

I love bodyguard romances: the intimacy of being in close quarters with someone, the complex power dynamics of one person being the employer and the other person being physically stronger and more intimidating, the constant possibility of danger, the potential for hurt/comfort, the class issues, everything. I would especially love butch bodyguard/femme musician, with high mutual attraction. Admiring muscles, fight skills, target practice; admiring talent and glamour. I’m also a sucker for the musician writing a song about her bodyguard, especially covertly; for the bodyguard getting hurt protecting the musician and then getting comforted; for slow-builds where they don’t like each other at first (maybe the bodyguard is distant, or doesn’t want the job, or the musician seems high-maintenance or shallow, or hates violence, or assumes that the bodyguard isn’t smart enough to keep up with her). I’m okay with any kind of musician here--highly-managed pop star, classical violinist, folk artist, writes-her-own-songs artist, anything--and with any situation leading to the bodyguarding, whether that’s “immediate threat from a stalker” or just routine security on a tour.

Confidential Informant/Handler

This is one of my all-time favorite dynamics. I love all the complications of control and morality and loyalty kink that you get with this: the handler has to keep sending her CI back into danger and maybe manipulating or blackmailing her to get her cooperation, the informant takes risks she shouldn’t because she trusts her handler or just wants to please her. Does the CI want to be an informant, or is the handler putting pressure on her because of a crime she’s committed? Does she view her informing as a continuous risk she wants to get rid of--at least consciously--or is it a shot at redemption? Is she involved in whatever illegal activity she’s reporting on, or is she more of a bystander? If the latter, what’s her role, and does it require her to maintain another relationship at the same time? Angst, identity porn, voyeurism, handcuffs, emotionally fraught sex, hurt/comfort, rescues, moral ambiguity?

Pirate Captain/The Sea

Look, I just have a thing for tall ships in general. Give me a historical or fantasy-style dashing female pirate captain and I will automatically be happy--it makes me smile to even think about this pairing. How does the sea manifest itself to the pirate captain? Does she make herself known because she's fallen in love with the woman who understands her beauty and ferocity, or does the pirate captain recognize her in some embodied form and fall hard first? How do the two show their love for each other? Are other sailors aware of the sea's sentience and her love for this particular pirate captain, or is the captain the only one who knows the true secrets of the sea?

Private Eye/Femme Fatale

I love f/f noir so much. I especially like historical noir and will suspend some disbelief for a wisecracking, hardboiled female PI--maybe she used to be the front office girl, but since her boss was killed, she’s taken over the business and is taking on any case she can to make ends meet?--coming face-to-face with a knockout woman she can’t be sure she trusts. (I’m good with either true femme fatale or a seeming femme fatale whose motives and acts are questionable but is ultimately not trying to kill or frame anyone.) Costume porn, with forties hats and gowns. People smoking sexily. Classic noir dialogue. Climactic gunflights. I just love the private eye being in a little over her head and maybe in danger, smart though she may be, and still being drawn to the femme fatale like a moth to a flame. Is she able to eventually get the upper hand through some ruthlessness of her own? Do they wind up getting away with a crime together?

Pulp Era Butch/Pulp Era Femme

Yes, please. I love pulp novels and their aesthetic in general, so if you dug up a random tagline from an old dimestore paperback and used it as inspiration for this, it would be impossible to go wrong. (I mean, there's a book called Lesbian Gym. Just saying.) I love the sexiness here and the historical atmosphere and the differences in personae. How do the butch and the femme meet? At a covert nightclub? Or do they meet outside of any outwardly queer context and have to feel each other out? Is one of them more confident or experienced than the other? I love a lot of working-class butch vibes, especially involving working with strong, possibly scarred, possibly dirty hands: mechanic, carpenter, biker, steelworker, etc. And I love the costuming and accessories of pulp-era femininity, so feel free to load the story down with descriptions of dresses and badass hats. Very down with porn for this ship, in particular.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Cordelia Chase/Buffy Summers

I love their dynamic and the way Cordelia is slowly drawn into Buffy's orbit because the strangeness of Sunnydale just won't leave her alone--and because she plays the role of Buffy's sexy damsel in distress so often and is maybe starting to have feelings about that aside from fleeting gratitude? I really like the idea of the two of them almost accidentally drifting into a relationship, where they keep on being prickly to each other, just with more making out, before they actually have to realize that they like each other. Maybe they're helped along by getting caught in a situation where they're each other's best hope, like they're imprisoned together by a monster or they've been body-swapped or they're stuck in a Groundhog Day loop. Maybe vampires keep kidnapping Cordelia because they erroneously think she's Buffy's girlfriend, and that leads somewhere. And I love mutual body appreciation--and fashion appreciation!--and Cordelia kinking a little on Buffy's strength.
