I will throw that DNW about modern AUs right out the window to make it more plausible for Sue to take Carrie to the prom herself, whether that goes well--they avoid the pig’s blood but then still have to figure out how to get through the last days of high school and deal with Carrie’s mother?--or tragically. I’m all for real romance here, but also all for the dark or bittersweet, whatever you prefer. Carrie’s ghost haunting Sue after the canonical ending? Carrie somehow pulling Sue along in her wake when she leaves town after burning down the prom, complete with creepy dub-con mind-fucks? (That scene in the book of her brutally going through Sue’s memories has always given me chills.) Divided loyalties and the ongoing toll of telekinetic powers? Or, again, just tentative romance and awkwardness. Anywhere on the gamut, I’m good.
Carrie White/Chris Hargensen
This is an excellent enemy-ship. Look, Chris canonically likes rough sex and gets off on mutual spite, so we are all owed Carrie/Chris hate-sex with telekinetic kink. I tend to see this ship as full-on dark, so my mind immediately goes to Carrie Lives AUs where Chris is somehow pressured or blackmailed into protecting her or where something Carrie does with her powers leads to the two of them slipping off this plane of reality altogether on prom night. But also: Chris getting her revenge for missing prom by manipulating Carrie into a fake relationship or just taking advantage of Carrie’s rock bottom social status and desperate desire to be liked for favors that get rewarded with a kiss. Just--darkness and awfulness and maybe some blood play.
Carrie White/OFC
All this talk about how bleak I can see these ships getting, and then we get to this pairing, and I just want Carrie White to have a girlfriend and get at least a little bit of happiness despite everything. Maybe she survives prom night and runs and meets a girl on the road? Can she ever tell her what she’s done, or what she’s capable of doing? Or does she have a fraught moment of attraction or flirtation with a girl at the prom and end up leaving early because of it, changing everything? Does the girlfriend also have powers and come and find Carrie first?
Chris Hargensen/Sue Snell
Ethical popular girl and unethical (and possibly sociopathic) popular girl. What is their history like? A few moments together between boyfriends that weren’t supposed to mean anything? An actual relationship that one of them wanted more than the other? What if Chris had targeted Sue for her revenge instead of Carrie, taking umbrage at Sue’s moral stance--what would she have done? If they had both lived, what would the aftermath of prom have been like, with the two of them among the only people who know the full story? How do they deal with the scrutiny and attention? Does Chris begin to actually feel any guilt, and does Sue sympathize with that, or find it to be too little too late? How would they get along as adults? (Given the format of the book, with all the excerpts from fake documents, I would totally read a mocked-up lesbian news profile of Chris and Sue all grown up and together and complicatedly loving and hating each other at the same time.)
DC Cinematic Universe
Diana Prince/Isabel Maru
I’d love to see what happens after Diana lets Maru live. Does her redemption become Diana’s project, a way of shoring up meaning after Steve’s death and her realization about the failings of the outside world? Does Diana take her back to Themyscira as a kinder alternative to imprisonment? How does Isabel see this woman who so obviously chose to spare her--is she grateful, frightened, intimidated, awestruck? Other things I’m totally up for: the lasso of truth being used in manners both scandalous and purposeful, Diana in the blue gown being the one who catches Isabel’s eye at the party (with accompanying encounter in a quiet bedroom upstairs), appreciation of Diana’s strength, loyalty kink, hierarchy kink/subservience with Diana getting called “princess,” and upturned circumstances where Isabel has to rescue Diana.
The Handmaid’s Tale
Aunt Lydia/Janine
Fucked-up and compelling. I love how the show gives Aunt Lydia a tremendously warped sense of compassion, one that she only expresses through some very repellant ideology. She’s maybe the truest of Gilead’s true believers, and I find her adherence to its supposed ideals very interesting, especially when she defends Janine’s right to attend the banquet, despite her missing eye. And that’s this ship in a nutshell--Aunt Lydia will remove Janine’s eye as a punishment and then earnestly insist that, having been punished, she should be as valued as any other Handmaid, and try to comfort her when she’s not. I would love darkfic for the two of them. Lydia’s repression and self-hatred about her desires? A tangled, abusive relationship where Lydia is the center of Janine’s life, her only reliable resource for happiness and pleasure but also a continuous source of pain? Messed-up Lydia POV on trying to keep Janine compliant with Gilead’s ideals “for her own good”?
Moira/Emily
I want all the canon-divergence AUs for these two. What if Moira’s escape had worked completely and she had later, as part of the resistance, successfully rescued Emily? What if both of them had ended up working at Jezebels? What if Moira had become a full Handmaid and then it was her Emily formed a relationship with, not the Martha in her household? What if they’d met at the Red Center and started something then? What if they’d had a one-night stand years before (with or without infidelity to their previous partners) and then found themselves surprisingly reunited? Really, the only thing I don’t want to see for them is “one dies, the other mourns,” though I’m happy to have both of them go out in a blaze of glory or for other dark possibilities to be explored, including something set after Emily’s mutilation.
Offred/Serena
Hate-sex, or at least antagonistic sex with complicated feelings of pity, admiration, envy, and resentment? Some kind of complicated post-Gilead detente? While I’m okay with keeping them enemies, I also really like the idea of them growing into a real, if incredibly complicated, romance, especially tied with some kind of redemption arc for Serena. That last could obviously take a while, but it would be great to see them at some point along that spectrum, trying to deal with the past and construct a future at the same time. Transitioning into an affair in Serena’s house, under the Commander’s nose? Trying to survive through the war or social collapse that is the fall of Gilead, and warming to each other under difficult circumstances and constant threat? Just the two of them glimpsing softness and sympathy in each other and not liking that feeling one bit is something I’m totally here for: enemies-to-lovers is one of my favorite tropes.
Mad Max Series
The Splendid Angharad/Furiosa
I love the feeling of balance between them. They're both leaders, but Furiosa has trained for war and Angharad has put her faith (mostly) in peace; it's Furiosa's skills and knowledge they're depending on but Angharad's principles they're following; they were both Joe's "favorites." They're both incredibly brave. I would love to see their early meetings--what were the circumstances where they had time alone to meet and develop the plan? How did they know to trust each other?--and to see Angharad requesting Furiosa's help and awaking her desire for redemption. I'd also love all the Angharad Lives AUs you can think of. The two of them struggling to govern after they retake the Citadel? Enjoying a luxurious bath in the newly available water? Taking care of each other after all the physical and mental stress they've been through? Working together toward something that will help Furiosa recapture the goodness she feels like she lost?
Cheedo the Fragile/The Dag
There's so much history implied in the way they cling to each other in the early scenes. Did they start a relationship while being held prisoner by Joe? I'd love to see any piece of that, or to follow its evolution. I love how the Dag's relish of danger contrasts with Cheedo's initial regret of giving up safety; I love that Cheedo looks at the world much more conventionally--while the Dag is prone to such dreamy-eyed, prophetic-sounding one-liners--and how they should probably annoy each other but instead rely upon each other. I'd love to see them in the world after the movie, too, dealing with Dag's pregnancy, learning to garden, and discovering how they are now that they have more options. I'm also totally here for the Dag pampering Cheedo with luxury and sensation play.
The Dag/Furiosa
Skewed poetry and world-weary, much-suppressed idealism. I would love to see these two put the pieces together after the end of the movie. Is everyone looking to Furiosa for guidance? Can the Dag help her to relax, or is there tension over her sometime being one more source of stress? (If the Dag has more time than Furiosa to spend time with the Vuvalini, I can also see that causing some conflict between them.) Do they go exploring together, as risky as it is? It would also be great to see them in canon-divergence AUs. What if Furiosa is the one who finds the Dag in hiding or in the village, and is supposed to turn her over to Joe--maybe his gratitude will eventually help her in her quest to get home--but can't? Or what if Furiosa is given a night with the Dag as a reward for some service, and finds the Dag surprisingly agreeable to it? Other things I'd love: the Dag learning all she can about Vuvalini culture (including some sex tips?), Furiosa teaching the Dag to drive, target practice, hair stroking, and mutual body appreciation.
Original Work
40s Private Eye/Glamorous Wartime Singer
The aesthetics of this are just so very much my thing. Forties night clubs, film noir lighting, dark deeds… I just want to sink into it. I would love to see a private eye poking around a club where the wartime singer works, and being attracted even though she knows the singer might be trouble; or to see the singer come to the private eye for help. Is she worried about being in danger, is she being threatened? Has she seen a crime? Or maybe there’s no case at all, and the private eye just drinks at the club where the singer works, or they both hit up the same after-hours bar together after their days conclude. How has the war affected them--have either of them lost someone? Have their opportunities expanded? Does the singer have an upcoming USO tour looming over her? Really, just give me gowns and sexy hardboiled banter and people smoking and I’m going to be happy.
Amazon/Greek Woman
I really love the idea of a Greek woman with a much more limited set of possibilities coming face-to-face with an Amazon who feels none of those restraints. That combination of attraction, envy, wonder, and curiosity is just so potent. Maybe the Greek woman is wealthy, and has always lived in highly-controlled luxury, and the Amazon’s roughness appeals to her; maybe she’s poorer, and the strength seems glamorous. How do they meet? Does the Greek woman get shipwrecked on the Amazons’ island, or does the Amazon come to mainland Greece for some reason? An Amazonian ambassador to Greece who falls in love with one of the high-born women around the government or with one of the servants or slaves that her culture isn’t used to ignoring? I also just love the feel of ancient Greece, so costume porn of togas and Amazonian armor, food porn of banquets eaten by hand, and gorgeous marble buildings would all make for terrific details and scene-setting.
Classic Hollywood Scriptwriter/Classic Hollywood Actress
So many awesome possibilities! I love classic Hollywood and its polished glamor with the tawdriness just underneath. And this pairing has so much flexibility. Is the actress demanding, insisting on multiple rewrites that the scriptwriter has to resentfully accommodate--before their late-night revision sessions lead to intimate conversations or just passionate hate-sex? Are they in a relationship and juggling the demands of the actress maintaining her studio-mandated public image, complete with fake boyfriend? Are they working on a movie together and slowly falling in love through flirtation? Do they love watching each other work, getting off on competence, talent, and wit? Is there costume porn? Screwball comedy banter? Noir intrigue? I love it all.
Sleeper Agent/Civilian
Hot, morally complicated, and potentially ending in disaster: I love that in a ship. What is the sleeper agent trying to accomplish, and is the risk that she’ll jeopardize the civilian or just that she’ll be betraying her through constant lies? How long has the agent been undercover, and are the lines starting to blur for her? What is the civilian’s role--fake wife/girlfriend/target of a honeypot scheme? Loyal coworker or neighbor? Has the agent been activated, and if not, what happens when she is, and she’s suddenly asked to pick up priorities and loyalties that have been on hold for years? Does the civilian suspect anything? I would also just love anything identity porn-related, because there are so many good possibilities for that here.
Bodyguard/Musician
I love bodyguard romances: the intimacy of being in close quarters with someone, the complex power dynamics of one person being the employer and the other person being physically stronger and more intimidating, the constant possibility of danger, the potential for hurt/comfort, the class issues, everything. I would especially love butch bodyguard/femme musician, with high mutual attraction. Admiring muscles, fight skills, target practice; admiring talent and glamor. I’m also a sucker for the musician writing a song about her bodyguard, especially covertly; for the bodyguard getting hurt protecting the musician and then getting comforted; for slow-builds where they don’t like each other at first (maybe the bodyguard is distant, or doesn’t want the job, or the musician seems high-maintenance or shallow, or hates violence, or assumes that the bodyguard isn’t smart enough to keep up with her). I’m okay with any kind of musician here--highly-managed pop star, classical violinist, folk artist, writes-her-own-songs artist, anything--and with any situation leading to the bodyguarding, whether that’s “immediate threat from a stalker” or just routine security on a tour.
Female Revolutionary/Princess
Class issues, identity porn, loyalty kink, and compromised principles: hell yeah. I think ideally I would like this one in a fantasy world, but I’m open to other possibilities. I’d love to see about any variation on this I could think of. Is the revolutionary undercover in the palace, getting ready to overthrow the monarchy while falling for the princess? Is the princess on the run from the revolution, disguising herself, and falling in amongst the rebels? Do either of them begin to rethink their principles or their policies? Is the revolutionary agitating in the open, and the princess is intrigued by her radical ideas? Other things I’m totally here for: wearing a crown while being thoroughly debauched by a revolutionary, hurt/comfort, kneeling, undressing from gowns and corsets, and virgin princess/experienced revolutionary.
You’re the Worst
Gretchen Cutler/Lindsay Jillian
My most beloved style of romance is “assholes in love.” So of course I love this show, and I would love to see fic fulfill my deep-seated desire for Gretchen/Lindsay. I love their petty awfulness and garbage-monster behavior, from the abuse of a froyo sample policy to an attempted turkey-baster baby-trap, and I especially love how that combines with their deep affection for each other. (Also, they’re both incredibly hot. Porn is more than welcome.) I’d love to see their old college days--Lindsay trying to help Gretchen through her depression, with or without attempted magical healing sex? Even more reckless behavior? Or tropey Harlequin-style AUs: Lindsay as one of Gretchen’s publicity clients? (A spoiled and ditzy former backup singer now trying to make it on her own with her breakout single “New Phone, Who Dis?”) Rich Lindsay and slacker personal assistant Gretchen? Sugar baby hangers-on to rich guys who find themselves more interested in each other? Or any kind of canon-divergence AU, like Gretchen going home with Lindsay in the pilot rather than Jimmy, or the two of them hooking up when Lindsay was trying to end her marriage by banging everyone in sight?

What if Furiosa is the one who finds the Dag in hiding or in the village, and is supposed to turn her over to Joe--maybe his gratitude will eventually help her in her quest to get home--but can't? Or what if Furiosa is given a night with the Dag as a reward for some service, and finds the Dag surprisingly agreeable to it? Other things I'd love: the Dag learning all she can about Vuvalini culture (including some sex tips?), Furiosa teaching the Dag to drive, target practice, hair stroking, and mutual body appreciation.

40s Private Eye/Glamorous Wartime Singer
The aesthetics of this are just so very much my thing. Forties night clubs, film noir lighting, dark deeds… I just want to sink into it. I would love to see a private eye poking around a club where the wartime singer works, and being attracted even though she knows the singer might be trouble; or to see the singer come to the private eye for help. Is she worried about being in danger, is she being threatened? Has she seen a crime? Or maybe there’s no case at all, and the private eye just drinks at the club where the singer works, or they both hit up the same after-hours bar together after their days conclude. How has the war affected them--have either of them lost someone? Have their opportunities expanded? Does the singer have an upcoming USO tour looming over her? Really, just give me gowns and sexy hardboiled banter and people smoking and I’m going to be happy.
Amazon/Greek Woman
I really love the idea of a Greek woman with a much more limited set of possibilities coming face-to-face with an Amazon who feels none of those restraints. That combination of attraction, envy, wonder, and curiosity is just so potent. Maybe the Greek woman is wealthy, and has always lived in highly-controlled luxury, and the Amazon’s roughness appeals to her; maybe she’s poorer, and the strength seems glamorous. How do they meet? Does the Greek woman get shipwrecked on the Amazons’ island, or does the Amazon come to mainland Greece for some reason? An Amazonian ambassador to Greece who falls in love with one of the high-born women around the government or with one of the servants or slaves that her culture isn’t used to ignoring? I also just love the feel of ancient Greece, so costume porn of togas and Amazonian armor, food porn of banquets eaten by hand, and gorgeous marble buildings would all make for terrific details and scene-setting.
Classic Hollywood Scriptwriter/Classic Hollywood Actress
So many awesome possibilities! I love classic Hollywood and its polished glamor with the tawdriness just underneath. And this pairing has so much flexibility. Is the actress demanding, insisting on multiple rewrites that the scriptwriter has to resentfully accommodate--before their late-night revision sessions lead to intimate conversations or just passionate hate-sex? Are they in a relationship and juggling the demands of the actress maintaining her studio-mandated public image, complete with fake boyfriend? Are they working on a movie together and slowly falling in love through flirtation? Do they love watching each other work, getting off on competence, talent, and wit? Is there costume porn? Screwball comedy banter? Noir intrigue? I love it all.
Sleeper Agent/Civilian
Hot, morally complicated, and potentially ending in disaster: I love that in a ship. What is the sleeper agent trying to accomplish, and is the risk that she’ll jeopardize the civilian or just that she’ll be betraying her through constant lies? How long has the agent been undercover, and are the lines starting to blur for her? What is the civilian’s role--fake wife/girlfriend/target of a honeypot scheme? Loyal coworker or neighbor? Has the agent been activated, and if not, what happens when she is, and she’s suddenly asked to pick up priorities and loyalties that have been on hold for years? Does the civilian suspect anything? I would also just love anything identity porn-related, because there are so many good possibilities for that here.
Bodyguard/Musician
I love bodyguard romances: the intimacy of being in close quarters with someone, the complex power dynamics of one person being the employer and the other person being physically stronger and more intimidating, the constant possibility of danger, the potential for hurt/comfort, the class issues, everything. I would especially love butch bodyguard/femme musician, with high mutual attraction. Admiring muscles, fight skills, target practice; admiring talent and glamor. I’m also a sucker for the musician writing a song about her bodyguard, especially covertly; for the bodyguard getting hurt protecting the musician and then getting comforted; for slow-builds where they don’t like each other at first (maybe the bodyguard is distant, or doesn’t want the job, or the musician seems high-maintenance or shallow, or hates violence, or assumes that the bodyguard isn’t smart enough to keep up with her). I’m okay with any kind of musician here--highly-managed pop star, classical violinist, folk artist, writes-her-own-songs artist, anything--and with any situation leading to the bodyguarding, whether that’s “immediate threat from a stalker” or just routine security on a tour.
Female Revolutionary/Princess
Class issues, identity porn, loyalty kink, and compromised principles: hell yeah. I think ideally I would like this one in a fantasy world, but I’m open to other possibilities. I’d love to see about any variation on this I could think of. Is the revolutionary undercover in the palace, getting ready to overthrow the monarchy while falling for the princess? Is the princess on the run from the revolution, disguising herself, and falling in amongst the rebels? Do either of them begin to rethink their principles or their policies? Is the revolutionary agitating in the open, and the princess is intrigued by her radical ideas? Other things I’m totally here for: wearing a crown while being thoroughly debauched by a revolutionary, hurt/comfort, kneeling, undressing from gowns and corsets, and virgin princess/experienced revolutionary.
You’re the Worst
Gretchen Cutler/Lindsay Jillian
My most beloved style of romance is “assholes in love.” So of course I love this show, and I would love to see fic fulfill my deep-seated desire for Gretchen/Lindsay. I love their petty awfulness and garbage-monster behavior, from the abuse of a froyo sample policy to an attempted turkey-baster baby-trap, and I especially love how that combines with their deep affection for each other. (Also, they’re both incredibly hot. Porn is more than welcome.) I’d love to see their old college days--Lindsay trying to help Gretchen through her depression, with or without attempted magical healing sex? Even more reckless behavior? Or tropey Harlequin-style AUs: Lindsay as one of Gretchen’s publicity clients? (A spoiled and ditzy former backup singer now trying to make it on her own with her breakout single “New Phone, Who Dis?”) Rich Lindsay and slacker personal assistant Gretchen? Sugar baby hangers-on to rich guys who find themselves more interested in each other? Or any kind of canon-divergence AU, like Gretchen going home with Lindsay in the pilot rather than Jimmy, or the two of them hooking up when Lindsay was trying to end her marriage by banging everyone in sight?
